Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1932 and later distributed in 1938 by DC Comics. Superman is born Kal-El, an alien from planet Krypton, and is rocketed to earth by his parents shortly before the distruction of his home planet. He is adopted by a family in Kansas and becomes Clark Kent. As Clark matures, he begins to develop and realize his super powers and vows to use them to benefit humanity. Upon adulthood, Superman becomes a newspaper reporter, but dawns his classic colors in times of need. Superman is the first true superhero as he possesses super human strength, the ability to fly, invulnerable to most physical attacks, vision powers, super hearing, and super breath. Superman's popularity has grown through the years as he has had radio and tv shows, cartoons, and movies based on his comic book character. To this day, Superman is considered to be the most recognizable superhero ever created.
