GI Joe
The GI Joe story and characters were created in 1942 by Dave Breger and turned into 12 inch action figures in 1964. GI Joe was directly responsible for the phrase "action figure" as it was considered inappropriate for young boys to play with dolls. In 1982, the GI Joe characters were scaled down considerably and the popular GI Joe cartoon tv show was released in 1985 and included such popular characters as Flint, Snake-eyes, and the Cobra Commander,. The GI Joe franchise, by Hasbro, has produced movies, cartoons, comic books, and memorabilia for the popular GI Joe toy brand.
