Family Matters
Family Matters was a long running sitcom in the late 80s and early 90s that was a spinoff of the show, Perfect Strangers. Family Matters was about the Winslows, a middle class, African American family living in Chicago. Midway through the first season, the show was struggling and the introduction of of the Winslows next door neighbor was introduced, Steve Urkel, a nerdy, unusually dressed, fumbler. The introduction of the Steve Urkel character and the response that he received quickly shifted the show away from the Winslows' and developed more of a story line with the Steve Urkel character. The Family Matters show ran for 9 years and ranks as one of the longest running African American based sitcoms.
