Dawn of the Dead was released in 1978 and was a follow up to George A Romero's Night of the Living Dead and helped launch the "splatter film" genre that was popular with 80s horror movies. Dawn of the Dead follows the lives of four humans taking refuge from blood thirsty zombies in a mall. The Dawn of the Dead movie recieved critical acclaim for its subcontext of consumerism and materialism and was the 2nd film in the George Romero's Living Dead movie series. The Living Dead series is one of the most popular horror franchises as many different zombie movies have been made over the years including a remake of the Dawn of the Dead.
