Captain America, and his alter ego Steve Rogers, first appeared in Timely Comics' Captain America Comics in 1941 and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Rogers is an art student and attempts to enlist in the miliatry, but he is rejected and offers himself up as a test subject for a classified project. Rogers is given a serum that will produce a super soldier. The serum produces a nearly perfect human greatly enhancing his strength and reflexes. His signature shield is later given to him and is virtually indestructible. Captain America is one of the longest running comic books produced by Marvel and the Captain America character has produced tv shows, cartoons, and a movie.
